NONO News - 02/07/2006

Hi Folks - We had a pretty good turn out for the meeting on Sun., especially since it was such a cold & snow blowing day.

Don showed up with a great assortment of door prize gifts for a drawing.
We voted to give the MNO $500.00 towards the INOA Rally.
The CONO's had voted the previous weekend to give $500.00 towards the Hot Dog / Hamburger Night. There was a quick discussion about the Norton Corral at Mid Ohio. I think the KISS Rule will still be in effect.
Keep It Simple, Stupid. So no cooking. Canopies for shade, tables & chairs. Bread, cold cuts, lettuce, tomatoes, sliced cheese & condiments.
Simple snacks like chips. Some beverages, soft drinks & water, etc...
I'm sure that Greg will be there with his coolers brimming with ice.
Most of the Club materials for the Corral are now stored at Greg Hasser's garage. These are ropes, signs, 5 gal. buckets to hold the canopies, a Brit flag streamer that Davie Todd gave us & a few other bits & pieces.
Greg has his chairs & coolers that will show up. I have my tables. I'm sure that we can borrow the canopies that we have used over the years from Maggi, Ric & others. The Thurs. noon set up seems to work really well. Basham may be back from his this summers Motorcycle Travels by then to help. Since it is the INOA Rally year in Michigan, we suspect that we'll get an added bump in attendance from that.

The AMA site is at: www.amadirectlink.com MV Augusta is the featured bike this year. We haven't had a club trip down to the AMA Museum in awhile, maybe we should think about an outing there.
They will have a new Dick Mann exhibit there in July.
www.motorcyclemuseum.org There's the Fifth Annual Penton Owner's Day being held at the Heritage Museum was held last weekend. I'm sure Jim Zonner was there for that one.

Motocross America is the current display : www.motorcyclemuseum.org
Ed mentioned that the Vincent Club was holding a rally this summer over by Steubenville, possibly at Cable's Campground next summer.

The BSA International Rally is being held in Brimfield Massachusetts. http://www.bsarallyusa.com/

Check out The OVBSA Club website: www.geocities.com

The Classic British Motorcycle Club of Cincinnati has moved it's site to: www.cincybritishbikes.com
There is nothing listed on their site about it, but sadly they are changing their two day swapmeet / bike show to a one day event, bike show at a new location.

Tentative NONO meetings will be at an April Fools Ride, at Jim & Christy's place near Burbank sometime in the summer (possibly Aug) Ed & Sue's weekend in Sept. & the Model Railroad place near Medina in Oct. or Nov. Ed is trying to figure out some new sites for his tour of Amish country. Last falls Coleman Lantern Museum tour was a big hit, as was Crandle Crain's bike collection. Sue was quick to mention that all of our rides, meetings & events (like the Britt Weekend) are open to anyone interested in motorcycles. In the past they have had CONO's NUTs, OVBSA, BMW & MV.
If you do have an interest in attending the Britt weekend, please let Ed & Sue know so they can plan, accordingly. It is held the third weekend in Sept. They have a great BBQ, Fri. evening restaurant outing, Ride to breakfast, both Sat. & Sun. am., motorcycle tour through Amish Country, free camping on Kim & Denis's front lawn. What else can you ask for? : ))

Don said that the Motorcycle Show at the IX Center was pretty good, with a good Italian turn out, but remarked that there was a noticed lack of the British makes. The new Norton & Triumph were not there. Don, the generous fellow that he always is, bought a round at the bar for everyone that stayed for their get together. It sounds like Don is going to take the plunge this spring & retire. Don may have to go down to spend some time with John Basham, to see how retirement's really done. : ))

There will be a gathering at Greg Hasser's garage after the Walneck's meet in Springfield on Sun. Mar. 26th starting just after noon. The usual burgers & dogs will be burnt to taste.

Don't forget to get your registration in early for the MNO's - INOA Norton Rally at Whispering Pines Campground near Mancelona Michigan, July 17th through the 21st. www.mnoa.net

MOTORCYCLE HALL OF FAME MUSEUM ANNOUNCES
“SUPERMANN” EXHIBIT

New July 2006 Exhibit to Celebrate Motorcycling’s Legendary Dick Mann

PICKERINGTON, OHIO – The Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum announces “SuperMann,” an all-new exhibit honoring the legendary career of Dick Mann, one of motorcycling’s most versatile and successful competitors.  Mann, who was inducted into the Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 1998, will return as guest of honor on Thursday, July 27, 2006 to personally cut the ribbon during the “SuperMann” exhibit dedication ceremony.

Mann was indeed a competitor with Superman-like qualities.  He was the first individual in history to win every category of AMA Grand National competition, is a two-time Daytona 200 winner, a two-time AMA Grand National Champion and a 24-time AMA National race winner.  Not only did Mann win more races in more categories than anyone else, he brought home the trophies for longer than most.  Competing in over 230 AMA nationals, including dirt track, road racing and motocross, Mann was in hot pursuit of the checkered flag for over 25 years, scoring top ten finishes when other racers were long retired.

“SuperMann,” the third in a series of Legends exhibits at the Museum, will celebrate the highlights of Mann’s numerous championship seasons as well as his professional achievements and contributions to the sport, including his current work for the American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association (AHRMA).  Featured exhibit bikes will likely include BSA, Matchless, Ossa, Yankee and Honda road race, dirt track and motocross bikes – all raced or developed by Dick Mann.

Visitors will also enjoy artifacts and memorabilia from Mann’s prolific career, many of them on loan from Mann as well as from private collections.  Ephemera includes Mann’s Grand National Championship leathers, trophies, early design concepts for Yankee Motorcycles and other unique items that help tell the story of “SuperMann.”

Mann is a natural choice for a Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum exhibit, notes Mark Mederski, the Museum’s executive director.   “Dick wasn’t just a fierce and multi-talented competitor who mastered virtually every type of motorcycle he ever threw his leg over, but his mechanical expertise also made him that rare breed of racer who could build a fast bike by himself, race and win with it.”  The fact that Mann and friends will be on hand to help dedicate the exhibit is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for enthusiasts to witness a chapter of American motorcycling history in the making.

True to the philosophy behind all Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum exhibits, “SuperMann” doesn’t simply present the hardware – it delves deep into the stories behind the legend.  This mission is expertly accomplished by “SuperMann” curator, Motorcycle Hall of Fame member and historian Ed Youngblood.  Youngblood, an award-winning author, also penned the Dick Mann biography, “Mann of His Time.”

The “SuperMann” exhibit opening has been scheduled to precede the July 28 – 30 AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, OH, located just 90 minutes north of the Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum.  The dedication ceremony and reception is scheduled for 5 pm Thursday July 27 and is open to the public.  Visitors can also enjoy “Motocross America,” the colorful exhibit tracing America’s original action sport, on the Museum’s main gallery level.

Collectors wishing to lend their Mann bikes or ephemera in support of the exhibit should contact the Museum.  Says Mederski, “With a multi-faceted career like Dick Mann’s, we expect a treasure trove of additional bikes, photos and ephemera preserved in private collections.  While we have already identified a good selection of these, we enthusiastically welcome additions that help us create the ultimate Mann retrospective.”
